Caterpillars are the larvae belonging to the order Lepidoptera (order comprising butterflies and moths). Most specimens are herbivores, but some species are insectivorous.

Cat = hairy caterpillar. In Greece they are known or have been known to geometrical (geometrids) which translates to "measurements of the Earth".
As everyone knows the vast majority of caterpillars live in trees and eat leaves. In addition to leaves some species feed on insects.
Given the huge appetite that is found in the damage they leave behind, if you have food in abundance caterpillars grow quite quickly and shed several times during this time.
Caterpillars are found in different sizes, shapes and colors depending on where we look. Their size ranges from 1mm to 10cm. Their body is long and soft and is made up of "layers" which ring a pair of legs meet.
Some caterpillars have longer hair so hoping to fend off predators, but some birds (flying and some chickens, turkeys and other domestic animals.) Prefer not that passwords for its high protein content.
Other caterpillars have venom glands and are toxic. These can be recognized with distinct colors, more vivid and red glben, black, etc. To protect some species "collaborating" with ants instead giving them food.
Caterpillars cause economic damage by eating leaves. Species are affecting agricultural lands and produce huge losses. They were the target for the control of people through the use of pesticides, but for many species have become resistant to pesticides.
Plants have evolved even producing toxins and their resistance mechanisms such as spines or hairs, to avoid being eaten by caterpillars.
Some caterpillars are used in industry. Silk industry is based on silkworm caterpillars.
As we could say that the caterpillar reproduction reproduce.
The species of caterpillars / larvae out butterflies, bees, ants or wasps, and other caterpillars.
Butterflies, for example, lay eggs, the eggs out caterpillars growing to the stage of larvae of the butterflies out larvae and the cycle repeats.
Did you know that:
Caterpillars eat leaves high in protein to build body cells
You have less muscle than a caterpillar?
When caterpillars attack the leaves of a tree, it starts to produce leaves with a different composition: less nutritious and harder to digest these leaves, gradually causing death caterpillars. It is believed that a tree attacked by caterpillars manages to warn neighbors by escaping a gas used as alarm.
