Pumi dog

Pumi is a breed of small to medium sized terriers, a sheepdog from Unagaria. Pumi was a common farm dog, pastor not only sheep, and cows and pigs and small rodents caught using harmful.

He is originally from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, when herding terriers were brought to Hungary from Germany and France. This type of terrier mated with Puli type dogs living in Hungary, resulting in this type of herding terriers.

As dog used to work, was a breed bred breed freely as Puli and Mudi until 1970 Until quite recently there was a register-B Pumi particular breed.

Fatherhood these dogs is not known, but if they meet the breed they may receive a "pedigree B".

The breed was officially recognized in 1966 and remained relatively unknown outside Hungary until 1970. In 1973 the first Pumi dogs were exported to Finland and 1985 in Sweden.

Subsequently, Pumi were exported in Germany, Holland, Italy, and in 1990 in the US.

Food Pumi

It needs a diet that contains carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals, focusing on proteins.

Description Pumi

It is a medium sized dog with square body, muscular. The head is suitable for long-domed skull with long snout and black nose.

The eyes are slightly oblique and brown and the ears are V-shaped, medium sized, straight, with the top rolled off and covered with coarse hair and bristly often.

Long tail is carried horizontally and curved at the top. The hair is coarse, curly, forming clumps but not strings. Can have colors: silver-gray, gray-brick, black, white, red-brown with or without white areas (desirable spotless).

It needs weekly brushing and more intense during the moulting period. It has a height of between 34 - 45cm and weighing between 8 - 14kg.

Behavior Pumi

It is very active, lively, bold, intelligent, with excellent smell quite noisy.

It is devoted and affectionate with the family, but shy and reserved with strangers. Socialized small children can understand them if you do not tease too much, as well as the others in the house.

It was raised to guard and leading herds of cattle. Today it is used for hunting and as guard dwellings or as a pet.

Health Pumi

It is a healthy breed with a life expectancy of 12 to 14, but some dogs have lived even 19 years.

The most common medical conditions are dislocation of the patella (paw) or hip.

Most information about this breed originating from Finland and Sweden, and about 80% of dogs were born there perfectly healthy hips.
